Agent Netherland Trading Society
Yokohama

Dear Sir,
Enclosed herewith I hand you A/Sales of Sundry Prices of Piece Goods – including that bartered for Tea shipped to you as specified in my No.48. If you are inclined to take exception to my having done an apparent retail business with your Mdse, in explanation I beg to say that I have occasionally sent ? here and there with a view to introduce your goods thoroughly in the market hoping thereby to induce larger transactions.
In many cases business has resulted in several I have failed to obtain recovery of the ? loaned but of course this responsibility is taken by me and the enclosed A/Sales accounts to you for every piece which has passed from my hands though I have sustained a loss of some 200 Boos. As I make good everything that I have delivered sending you per “Yangtze” the N/Proceeds of all goods sold or loaned out not previously accounted for I hope to meet with no expression of your disapproval of the course pursued I have ?tiously avoided accepting any risks for you which I was not positively certain I could make up for to you in case a loss should be the result. Please provide Insurance for Boos 1534 N/P of enclosed A/Sales.
With reference to the Proceeds of your Rice and Surume I have to say that it is found necessary to make a case against both the Shosha & a Japanese named Naogi ( who sold this Mdse) thro. The American consulate here in order to secure its being carried through with a decision in your favor. Please therefore provide Insurance on Treasure for say Mx. $ 3,800 as I am sure of obtaining this am’t from the Shosa- to be shipped hence per “Yanzte” by open Policy. The exact particulars I shall not be able to give you – except in person – on arrival in Yokohama.
I enclosed a Memo giving you all the particulars which I have been able to obtain of the Sale of your Rice and Surume and the disposiont of proceeds of same –
What the item of interest p’d to the ? Captin means or why it was paid I am unable to discover.
Hoping my action in this affair may meet with your approval and thanking you for the confidence expressed in your late favors, in closing my correspondence with you accept the assurance that
I am, Dear Sir,
Yours truly,

R.M.Brown.

PS I bring with me on my return for safe , copy press disk
